Joint Disease

Degenerative Joint Disease is a progressive disorder that attacks the body’s cartilage, the hard tissue that covers up the end of bones and meets the joints, allowing the bones to move. The result is cartilage wearing down over time and causing bone and joint pain. It worsens as time goes on and unfortunately, there isn’t a known “cure” at this time to stop it from progressing or to reverse the damage already done. Generally the spine (lower and upper back), neck, hips, knees and hands are most significantly affected.

It may shock you to learn that the best treatment for this disorder is to stay active! Most patients with this disorder report that they feel better and experience less symptoms overall when they keep moving. However, chiropractic care can also help alleviate pain and keep you moving. Because the disc degenerates over time, it begins to be more heavily supplied with hyper sensitive nerves which allow you to feel greater pain. Dr. Wheatcroft will help to improve the joint mechanics by reducing inflammation and improving overall spinal motion.
